Knowing the NY Times, they are telling us the opposite of the truth, which means he is most likely a Shiite.

Maybe the NY Times is covering for him possibly being an Iranian Shiite, since the Biden admin is still desperately trying to get another Iran Deal? The cannot embarrass Iran by reporting a Shiite murdered Muslim Sunnis. The disappointment must have been enormous when they found out the suspect wasn’t a white Trump supporter but a muslim.
The press rarely says “it is believed” about anything. They always pretend to KNOW. So it is very stiff and unnatural to see the press use the phrase here, and to me sounds like lying. Heck, even the brother of a victim thinks the report is wrong :
