Forgive me for my stupid question because I don’t quite know the geography out west. From my understanding death Valley is at a very low elevation. Below sea level if I recall. So my question is, where does the water go?

282 feet below sea level, at Badwater, lowest point in North America. Water is quickly absorbed by the dry, sandy soil. Quite a bit of Death Valley Park is well above sea level. Telescope Peak at 11,049 feet towers over Badwater.

The “soil” at Badwater Basin is crunchy. The top layer is salt which cracks as you walk.
