I doubt she was “strung out on drugs” at any point. I’ve followed her career since the 1970s and have all her albums. She did do some marijuana toward the end of her life (overseen by her husband) to help with the cancer pain. RIP.

I was still a teenaged boy with raging hormones when I say her on TV strung out on drugs. I recognized the look because too many of the kids I knew in high school went down that path.

Most of them, fortunately, kept it minor and did weed only. But a few of them went off the deep end including a friend of my brother who was murdered over a drug debt.

I saw enough of the druggie world that I wanted nothing to do with this crap and was so extreme that I refused Rx strength pain killing drugs when I was badly burned escaping a fire at age 25 and spend three weeks in a burn unit of a big city hospital.
