Originally this song was called Feudin Banjos and was recorded by Don Reno and Arthur Smith, both play banjo on the tune. This was in the mid 1950s.

While both were well known and respected banjo players, Don Reno was an absolute master and developed a style of 5 string playing called single string. It is said that Reno was playing “Scruggs Style” 5 string before Scruggs.
