In the early 60s my very good 6th grade math teacher told us he was going to try out the “new math” curriculum. After a couple of weeks he gave up and went back to real math. My class was for kids that would likely go to college and he knew what would help us and what wouldn’t.

I remember a bunch of the school district penguins coming into our math class in an early grade and making a glorious announcement about how we were going to be taught “new math” and it would be the greatest thing ever.

We were kept together at least up into high school.

I don’t know how the others fared but I struggled in math all the way through college and was amazed to learn simple things in college that I had never gotten in govt school.
