The biggest Bolide crater in the US is the Chesapeake Bay impact 35 million years ago. It fell north of where the Delmarva peninsula opens to the Atlantic. It blasted so much water and soil out from the impact zone that, as the water rushed back in, it changed the orientation of the James and York River mouths to point north easterly towards to central point of the impact instead of south easterly toward the opening of the bay.
