There’s definitely a system to it. In this case, take a common name, Sean, and spell it phonetically. Then add a prefix, like LA, DA, DE etc. Suffixes are common as well..iqua, Tay, tel etc.
Origin? Teenage moms are, like other teenagers, immersed in pop culture and want to sound “cool” and unique.
Once it was a portmanteau of elders names, like frappé + cappuccino = frappuccino.
Where it goes now that we've had generation of Taeshawns and Lekwaishas is anyone's guess.
