I, too, was a programmer and recognize the inherent weaknesses and only bank in person.
However, our various IRA accounts are held by Schwab so in-person is not really an option for us.
I use a land line for verification not my smart phone - limited data available.

But... Even then there is a record of billing information. THIS is the problem. Since Net neutrality was repealed now carriers can sell your private information related to your phone account. Even a land line. Name, address, how you pay for service...
Seriously, it is bad. just as bad as giving out your SS number.
