WASHINGTON (DC News Now) — The Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) said a library police officer died Thursday afternoon after a retired police lieutenant shot and killed her in the Anacostia Library.
MPD said the retired lieutenant was conducting training at the library, located at 1800 Good Hope Rd. SE. At the end of the training, the retired lieutenant fired a gun. The bullet hit the library police officer.
Medics took her to the hospital where she died.
Other library police officers, as well as the retired lieutenant, were being interviewed late Thursday afternoon.
MPD said it was working with its partners at the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Columbia in the investigation into exactly what happened.
Something tells me it’s fairly easy to find an empty seat in the Anacostia library.
Rookie Joey Cushman was killed by his training officer back in 2001.
The training officer wanted to demonstrate that the protective face shield (PPE) would be suitable for wax projectiles from red training guns.
To prove this, the officer shot Cushman in the forehead with a 40SW.
“It’s not good practice to do that,”
Really Captain Obvious, do tell.
If they have a library, then it better have a cop. Maybe the worst part of DC.
I know I worked at St. E’s in 1991.
Yep the accidental discharges at the range we go to are always cops.
A very likely scenario for the ND.
More innocent people have been killed by Metropolitan Police Department officers than have been killed by NRA members.
Library police?
I have no words.
Book ‘em, Dano!
the trainer, who was contracted by library police to conduct training
Note to other library police - use a different contractor for your training.
Overdue book fees have escalated...
