As a kid when we brought lunch from home, mom would put boiled water in the thermos, some seasoning and the dogs and by noon, we would pull out the dogs and put on our white bread.
or for camping.
We played hot potato with an electrolytic capacitor charged to 350 volts. Great fun.
a modern marvel!!!
How can you tell it’s springtime in New York City ??
Hot dog venders change their water...
We used to go to a place called Lum’s where they
boiled them in beer...great.
Then the powers that be decided that kids might eat them
and become alcoholics so they had to shut down.
Presto hot Dogger (see link above)
For some reason, Ignatius J Reilly of Confederate of Dunces is springing to mind.
I wonder if that old ad as the inspiration for The Simpsons episode where Homer fills his car with plug-in appliances . . .
A good quality hot dog grilled are the best with a toasted bun.
But when you are having a large party or gather and the grill isn’t an option, filling up a westinghouse roaster (or slow cooker) with water, and dumping a giant package or two of cheapest hot dogs you fan find in and turning on to a good temp will warm and hold the hot dogs damn near indefinitely... folks can graze all night on em... and they do have a very distinct flavor.
Interesting. I always cook brats in beer first, then on the grill for finishing. I will try it your way sometime.
👍
A brat is not a hotdog it's a sausage and delicious. A hotdog is, well for better explanation, nobody knows.
I believe it's what they scrape off the floor when they are making actual brats.
A Confederacy of Dunces. Truly a classic.
bookmarked
I like an all beef Costco big dog with no bun. Cut up, fried a little with some olive oil and onions and then add some pork and beans. Quick high protein small meal.
What a great idea your mom had.
We have Wampler’s Sausage a couple miles down the road, also in TN. Very good!
So your post (& the comments) gave me “chili dog” on the brain. I had to go out & buy hot dogs & make a low carb chili dog casserole - already had 2 lbs of ground meat thawing so it worked out perfectly. It’s in the oven now - should be DELICIOUS based on sampling the chili!
Caught a sale on the hot dogs ... 100% Angus, no fillers, no nitrates. BOGO $5.49 .... bought 4. You can’t find many 100% beef hot dogs for $2.74/pkg. One in the casserole, 3 in the freezer.
