A presidential title is for life. He will always be President Trump.
We never say former President Lincoln or Former President Clinton.
I call all Presidents, “President”. Even President Carter.
It’s respect for the office and you’re correct, it’s a life long Title.
But I am a transplant from Downstate, so I dunno about the Yoopers.

That’s common etiquette — to call any pol by their most prestigious title. That’s why it’s always “Governor Huckabee”, etc.
