Democrat Rep. David N "Spare Me The B------- about Constitutional Rights" Cicilline and others have said the quiet part out loud: they want to ban almost all semi-automatic weapons in common use.
If you wondered why the nation's socialist news cabal American Pravda suddenly decided to drop the terms "assault weapon" and "assault rifle" from their propaganda lexicon, your answer was soon forthcoming in their triumphant announcement of their next onslaught against your sensible civil rights: "Democrats push for 1st semi-automatic gun ban in 20 years."
In a tyrannical two-for-one special, not only have the enemies of liberty of the fascist far left admitted that the whole point of this was to ban weapons in common use, but they're also tacitly defying the United States Supreme Court ruling District of Columbia v. Heller.

Most damning is this exchange between Dan Bishop (R) and chairman of the Judiciary Committee Jerry Nadler (D) in a congressional committee meeting during the markup of the bill on July 20, 2022:
Bishop: Is there anyone on the other side that would dispute that this bill would ban weapons that are in common use in the United States today?
Nadler: Yeah, that's the point of the bill.
Bishop: To clarify, Mr. Chairman, you're saying it is the point of the bill to ban weapons that are in common use in the United States today?
Nadler: Yes, the problem is they are in common use.

This Congress will attempt to pass another 1994 AWB but make it permanent. I don't trust the 10 RINO Senators who helped pass last month's gun control bill. Still, the bill may not pass.
Failing an AWB bill (either by Congressional vote or SCOTUS overrule), look for Biden to direct the BATFE to copycat POTUS #41 GHWB in 1989 and issue a directive to ban manufacture & sale of semi-auto rifles based upon the GCA of 1968's definition of firearms that do not meet "sporting purposes". That action by GHWB (banned importation of assault weapons) is what led to the Congress passing the 1994 AWB.
The other long-range strategy the DemonRat Deep State is pursuing is the illegal development of a national firearm registry by the ATF. We know ATF has been digitizing Form 4473s for roughly 25 years ostensibly for their criminal gun trace program. If it is turned into a searchable gun registry that provides them the means to identify who has what. Of course it is likely that a majority of these firearms have already been legally transferred to another owner without a paper trace.
The nightmare of a national firearm registry could be justified by the DemonRats as consistent with the 2A's "well regulated militia". That would mean the Congress passing a bill to command all citizens to register their unregistered firearms. We know the majority of semi-auto rifle owners in NY and CT ignored their state bills to register these firearms after the Sandy Hook Elementary School mass shooting. So how do you identify who legally owns unregistered firearms? The information technology tools exist if the Deep State has the will.
What good will it do if we can’t practice? If a neighbor sees it and rats us out?
Your cynicism is well warranted. Or political and justice system has been severely compromised. I honestly don’t think anything but a complete and total flush with a rebuild having many checks and balances to prevent this from happening again can fix this.
That won’t happen if the squishy GOPe RINO circle jerk is in charge of the GOP. We need a clean republican leadership that will not be part of the Uniparty. That’s what got us into this mess to begin with. The dems were able to compromise enough republicans to go along with their agenda or they were planted there as RINO’s long ago or even recently.
Outside money appears to be a huge driving factor of this corruption. If that can be prevented we have a chance of saving this republic. Outside money meaning out of state or even out of country (foreign influence). ie Soros, Davos Group, WEF group, Blackrock, etc. etc.
