I assume you have a 401K and/or IRAs. Trust me, the Government will hit you up for plenty when you start drawing those down.

401k's, IRA's and two pension accounts. My financial planner is quite adept at minimizing taxable income. In fact, one of the reasons I'm retiring now is to minimize the amount I'll have to pay for Medicare when I become eligle and to maximize my SS payout when I do retire. I'm at the max now. I'm not doing anything to impact that going into retirement.

Remember: income taxes are based on INCOME. For the next 6 years, I'll have ZERO income. I'll be living off of savings. Zero income = ZERO TAXES.

Well, passive income from investments & capital gains is still income. You can minimize it, but you can’t eliminate it. And taxes is taxes, whether its coming from your salary or not.

Don’t get me wrong — I am very happy for you. I too am able to retire, but will probably work from 3-8 more years. The my reason is that don’t want to because I don’t relish being idle. For me, it is not about how much the Government does or does not get. The Government will always find a way to put its hand in your wallet. It’s about my desires and well being.

Best of luck!
