I would have thought she quit that song because of it’s implied violence to women. Even though it’s a good tune, I can see how someone would focus on that aspect first.

It used to be much more common and accepted to joke about wife beating. Think of the Honeymooner’s famous line:
“To the Moon, Alice!” the whole audience had a good chuckle.
