I worked a patrol beat in South-Central Los Angeles for 16 years.
I never needed an up-armored vehicle of any kind, (unless a Crown Vic counts) and we drove our patrol cars to wherever we needed to serve a warrant.
So, one might wonder just what the various Federal agencies think they need armor for.

Yep. And y’all got the job done.
Nowadays they ride an extremely expensive armor vehicle and look cool and badass on the way to the scene.
Then, they have to get out of said vehicle. No more cool.
Taxpayers paying for a cool ride.

Last bona fide legit use of an armored vehicle outside of the military that comes to my mind was about 5 years ago. A pack of methians were running a large multi-county theft ring, the place they were nested up in had all kinds of cameras, gates, barriers and such, rather hardened position. Sent the armor crashing through all that at the main gate and deputies poured in behind it. Made an excellent distraction from the other deputies who were coming at them from two other directions.
