It’s not quite as freeing as being on a motorcycle, but surprisingly close.

Maybe in attitude.

I have done cross country trips (several more than 2500 miles one way) on a motorcycle.

A "cage" (enclosed vehicle) is much more capable, comfortable, and safer, just because of the weather, not to mention other vehicles.

I agree. But I did love motorcycle commuting to downtown seattle in my full rain and snowmobile suits, and being able to park for free in the downtown garages. They would let you park in “nooks and crannies”, but not in actual spaces.
