Ted Maher was a big deal here at FR at one time. He was hello without charges? He did eventually admit to being the one who started the fire? I guess he's out now? Didn't he get charged with stealing his wife's dogs this year?

He only got 8 years, for some reason. The contention was sort of a munchausen by proxy thing, where he wanted to get in good with Safra by saving him from the fire, but unfortunately, neglected actually to save him. Safra was a very fine banker and RepNY was a really interesting bank, but like a lot of them in the 80s he went hog wild on Latin American debt, and it cost the bank a lot of capital when it all unwound. Ironically the rest of the bank’s balance sheet was incredibly low risk.
