Damage to chromosomes occur due to oxidant stress

Antioxidants repair or prevent the damage

Healthy chromosomes that will work properly have long telomeres

Antioxidants like c and e lengthen dna telomeres

This means the chromosomes will stick around because they will function well and divide well and have less damage over the long haul

Keeping chromosomes healthy keeps them being around

“Antioxidants repair or prevent the damage”

Antioxidents ONLY help prevent damage of cells, and particularly the DNA carrying nucleus, while the cell is active - and before its normal cell death and division to make new cells, by helping to eliminate free radicals that contribute to living cell mutations - alterations of the DNA.

But loss of the Y tail end of a chromosome is not an occurance of envionmentally caused mutation as much as it is a decline in cell reproduction/production process itself, when it just fails to get that tail end copied, wich is when and where the loss of the Y occurs. That does not seem to be directly related to free radical caused mutation.

There are many things we can do to stay healthy longer. Eventually aging wins no matter what.
