If my brother, wife, child or other family member works for my campaign, I'll pay him out of campaign funds . . . it's a job.

I see nothing wrong with paying family for work done . . . unless it's illegal to DO so.

it is not that family works for you that is the issue. It is the amount they are paid, usually for tasks they have no qualifications for or for a task that is never meant to do anything anyway.

Now one could say “who cares” it only hurts the candidate, but that still misses the point. The intent was always to siphon the funds off for personal gain as opposed to support an honest run for office.

Simply put it is legal graft and an abuse of the good will of those donating.

‘Works” is the key word there.
So too, what experience do they have doing the “job”?

If you give your 10 year old a million dollar salary out of campaign funds to smile on camera, that woud certainly be a questinable use of campaign funds.

What is legal for politicians would get prison time for most others.
