Cutting off the supply routes for the Russian forces in Kherson City (two bridges).

Looks like one of the expected phases of an Ukrainian Operational Plan to recapture Kherson.

Building toward the expected Ukrainian counter offensive, in the expected area, likely in coming weeks.

Reportedly, SecDef Austin gave his Ukrainian counterpart some good news yesterday, which will supposedly be publicized soon. Speculation is ATACMS.

Good detail on the Ukrainian bridge attack. They used 6 HIMARS, 5 were shot down...one hit. Link at the bottom of this shows good close up pics of the bridge damage...minor damage.

I am very surprised that Russia was able to shoot down 5 of the 6 HIMARS.

Russian-friendly sources in Lugansk report that a salvo of six HIMARS rockets was fired towards targets near Kherson. 5 of the 6 were shot down by Russian air defense; 1 hit a bridge, inflicting only minor damage.

HIMARS as wunderwaffe will be forgotten within a few more weeks.

Ukrainians attacked the Kherson region with HIMARS. The strikes occurred near Oleshki, a town located on the left bank of the Dnieper river.

Air defense systems shot down 5 out of 6 missiles, one fell near the Antonovsky bridge which was damaged.

HIMARS as wunderwaffe will be forgotten within a few more weeks.

They'll be used by the Ukies as terror weapons, like the Third Reich's V2 rockets.

I’m watching Putin’s meetings with Iran closely. Our Kirby insists Russia will be getting “several hundred” drones from Iran.

Iran has denied that report though I would expect them to under any circumstances. The U.S. has sanctions of those drones and parts for them.

Also read (but have no idea if this is just speculation of the part of the poster or whether there is some indication of these negotiations actually taking place) that they are looking at Russian S400 or advanced versions of Su planes in exchange for the drones.

Now just read this: ASB Military News
“Tehran is ready to export military equipment and weapons - Iranian Army Commander Heydari”

Lots to watch here...:-)

So how is Iran getting the computer chips and other parts to manufacture the drones?

https://apnews.com/article/white-house-says-russian-officials-visited-iran-for-drones-ef42c30747220d3e499f9c8b116fefa6

Hours before the Gulf Cooperation Council summit, the White House released satellite imagery that indicates Russian officials have twice visited Iran in recent weeks for a showcase of weapons-capable drones it is looking to acquire to use in its war in Ukraine.

Release of the satellite imagery showing that Russian officials visited Kashan Airfield on June 8 and July 5 to examine the drones could help the administration better tie the relevance of the war to many Arab nations’ own concerns about Iran’s nuclear ambitions and other malign activity in the region.

A senior Biden administration official, who briefed reporters before the summit, said Moscow’s efforts to acquire drones from Tehran show that Russia is “effectively making a bet on Iran.”

The administration also released satellite imagery of Shahed-191 and Shahed-129 drones being displayed and in flight on the airfield, while a Russian delegation transport plane was on the ground.

White House national security adviser Jake Sullivan said in a statement that the administration has “information that the Iranian government is preparing to provide Russia with several hundred UAVs.” UAVs are unmanned aerial vehicles, or drones.

“We assess an official Russian delegation recently received a showcase of Iranian attack-capable UAVs. We are releasing these images captured in June showing Iranian UAVs that the Russian government delegation saw that day,” Sullivan added. “This suggests ongoing Russian interest in acquiring Iranian attack-capable UAVs.”

Sullivan said U.S. officials believe the June visit “was the first time a Russian delegation has visited this airfield for such a showcase.”

Iran’s mission to the United Nations did not immediately respond to a request for comment early Saturday regarding the White House’s assertion.

On Friday, Iran’s Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian, in a phone conversation with his Ukrainian counterpart Dmytro Kuleba, rejected reports on exporting Iranian drones to Russia, calling them “baseless.”

JEDDAH, Saudi Arabia — Iran is preparing to sell Russia hundreds of attack drones, US National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan revealed Saturday while US President Joe Biden was in Saudi Arabia for a Mideast summit where leaders were looking to collaborate against the Islamic Republic.

“We have information indicating that the Iranian government is preparing to provide Russia with several hundred UAVs, including weapons-capable UAVs,” Sullivan said in a statement, with the White House assessing that Russian delegations twice visited Iran’s Kashan Airfield on June 8 and July 5 to view showcases of the drone technology.

The White House also released three photos of the Shahed-191 and Shahed-129 unmanned aerial vehicles capable of carrying precision-guided missiles. The satellite photos also show the drones in flight while a Russian transport was at the site.

Ukraine has made extensive use of armed drones in its fight against the invading Russians, who have not made acquiring such capabilities a priority until now.

The US intelligence assessment was first reported by CNN, prompting Iran to deny it.

On Friday, Iran’s Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian, in a phone conversation with his Ukrainian counterpart Dmytro Kuleba, rejected reports on exporting Iranian drones to Russia, calling them “baseless.”

“These sort of claims parallel with Biden’s visit to occupied Palestine, or Israel, are in direction of political intentions and purposes,” the website of Iran’s Foreign Ministry quoted Amirabdollahian as saying. “We oppose any move that could lead to continuation and intensifying conflicts.”

The US and Israel have previously accused the Islamic Republic of using drones and missiles to attack US forces and Israel-linked ships in the Gulf.

In September last year, Defense Minister Benny Gantz revealed the location of the Kashan air base and said it was being used to train Tehran’s regional proxies to operate advanced drones.

According to Gantz, the UAV base is located north of the city of Isfahan in central Iran and serves as “a linchpin of the Iranian effort to export aerial terror to the region.”

A Shahed-129 drone was launched from Lebanon by technicians from Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps in October 2012, and managed to transmit photos of preparations for a joint Israeli-US military drill as well as Israeli ballistic missile sites, airfields and even possibly the nuclear reactor in Dimona before it was shot down by the IDF, according to a Sunday Times report.

Israeli reports at the time disputed the revelation, saying the then-new long-range drone was relatively old-fashioned and incapable of relaying surveillance information back to its operators in real-time.

“cutting off retreat?”

Possibly the Ukrainians want to capture some heavy weapons after the battle for Kherson, but definitely they need to cut off Russian supply lines before.

Another S-35 shot down? That’s $70 million flushed down the squat toilet by Putin in two days. That would build a lot of churches in Russia. Too bad KGB Vlad would rather murder Ukrainians than spend that money on the Russian people.

The talk of a major Ukrainian offensive around Kherson is mostly likely a bluff and bit of psywar. They need to conserve resources to defend Odesa. A battle for Odesa and Ukrainian access to the Black Sea will make Mariupol look like a kindergarten game.

Shot down by Ukraine over occupied territory. Ukraine also missed killing the Kherson occupation leadership in a strike in the same area today. They’ll be toast next time.

Not a bluff. Watch what Ukraine has been doing for the past 2 weeks to shape the offensive. And the U.S. and NATO is helping. This strike at the bridge knocked out Russia’ top of the line air defense radar defending the bridge.

ASB Military News

This appears to have been a fighter jet that either crashed or was shot down — Either the Ukrainians are dumb AF and went that deep into Russian territory or it was a malfunction and a Russian jet crashed (Ukraine doesn’t have the means to down an aircraft in that area)

Let’s wait for more details

By the limited angle the nose of it looks like a Sukhoi. So it’s probably russian friendly fire again 👀

We’re fairly confident from the last footage upon zooming in that it’s a Su-35 of the Russian Aerospace Forces

Let’s remember that Russia beefed up its air defences massively in the last 9 days, it is almost certainly friendly fire — we think.

Friendly fire is normal in war. It happens. But to down 2 Sukhois with a very distinctive look within a few days is pretty shi__y management from any angle. We’ll never know if the air Defense systems are set on their highest sensitivity and are automatically intercepting targets — or if this was direct input human error.

But sh_t happens. Pilots are apparently safe.
