You think the forced attic ventilation is a paying proposition? The work but have they saved money on the AC?
I’ve been considering a fan in the attic or radiant barrier paint on the decking.
One argument against fans is that they pull air from inside the house to the attic with the negative pressure. Can’t see it with 20” or more of fiberglass insulation.
I wish I had put Koolply on when we redid the roof, I will on the addition that is upcoming. Not a believer in the encapsulated attic but use of mini-splits instead. Duct work does not belong in attics and does not belong much of anywhere. I’ll be replacing the R-2 junk with R-8 ducts this winter and freshening the insulation in the attic where I do have the old forced air split system. The addition will have a three zone cassette mini-split based system with Koolply decking and lots of foam.
Bravo!
Well, you raise some interesting points. All I can attest to is that our attic is so much cooler now that the electric fans are running. There’s 2 up there. Our house is about 2500 sq. ft. single story.
It seems the air that’s being forced out is the attic air. I don’t see how air can be pulled up from the house. The vent goes directly into the pump up there, as I understand it.
Those fans are in the roof. A long way from the inside of the house and again, I don’t see how the cooled inside air is being pulled up by the fans since it’s pretty much sealed between the house and the attic with the exception of the vent where the AC filter is.
I probably don’t know what I am talking about but our power bill is way down. New windows around the house and a new AC unit is certainly the major factors. Good luck.
You made my day! :)
Tone down the profanity, you aren’t in DU
Ouch.
>>>Air conditioning led to the big gooberment we have now.>>>
Interesting and logical. Ironically, these fools are going after AC now too, claiming it’s the major cause of climate change. They will try and make it too expensive. They do that....and yeah....civil war is certain.
108 degrees is kind of interesting. Is there anything interesting going on in Indiana? Has there every been?
Have to admit......Seattle sounds pretty, pretty, pretty good about now.
:)
Well, it is relevant as news at least it is if we take it as part of the whole of the narrative we are always hearing.
Is it possible that its really that hot in Texas? What about other parts of the US?
Just a week or so ago we saw another story out of France. According to that story all of the Americans in our Southern most tier must be lying about the heat.
According to these stories when the heat gets up around 100 in France then everyone over a few decades old just up and dies from the heat. There was a bazillion or so this year and another bazillion or so a few years before when they ran that story and some more before that. They just dont know what to do. No one can survive in that kind of heat...
...except that Americans, many of whom dont have AC, seem to. The Spanish seem to get along without 10s of thousands just up and dropping dead. Maybe the front sneaks around the Pyrenees or the Spanish are specially adapted. Why doesnt that front ever flow into Germany and kill a bazillion or so? Borders, its probably afraid of starting something. You would think that regardless of the direction that this heat wave came from that the people of England would get hammered, there is only a couple of miles between them. All that intense heat stirring it up with all that cool wet air should cause some horrendous storms. Maybe they are all swimming home from the pub to bury their boiled geriatric relatives and just keeping a stiff upper lip but it just seems someone would say something.
I suppose its possible that the French are just tying pensioners on the roof until they bake into raisins but you would think that a tourist might catch a picture of that.
Maybe the French story we see year after year is bullshit and theres an agenda but there I go with my tinfoil hat again.
They already are making AC expensive and needlessly so. Each change in refrigerant gas makes the devices less efficient or reliable. R-12 gone, R-134 gone, R-410 phased out but not replacement. 410 is a lousy refrigerant. It expands very little.
I have a jug of R-12 that is like gold. The last 410 I bought was nearly $200 for just 3 lbs.
I’ll try it this week.
Pump? Vent? You mean the air conditioning unit? Your AC air handler is probably located in the attic like in most Texas homes.
Done!
We had to run the furnace where I live. 63° inside the house when we woke up this morning.
At almost 11:00 pm south of San Antonio I’m still at 90 degrees. Yes It’s hot in Texas.
If you don’t care for a particular thread the proper protocol is to skip that thread.
Hell’s Back Porch season!
The thing was, he could always back it up.
If you can walk the walk, you’re entitled to talk the talk!
