Being forced to say the most ridiculous things makes one betray their intelligence and common sense. That is the purpose.

I think that is part of it. I think a quote from Voltaire adds a little to it:
Those who can make you believe absurdities can make you commit atrocities.
Think about the abortion issue. For many years the pro-abortion faction advanced the principle that a fetus was only a mass of tissue and was not a human at conception. That falsehood makes it easier for people to accept abortion . . . which in my book is an atrocity.
And remember the good ole Nazis. They spun the principle that Jews were nothing but nasty mongrels that were a blight on mankind. If you believe that, once again, it is not a huge leap to have you participating in extermination camps and gassing or executing Jews.
My personal opinion is that these cute little snippets for recitation eventually become exceptionally dangerous to classes of people they want to steamroll, silence or eliminate.
