I’ve read that other electronics like navigation, AppleCarPlay, adaptive cruise control, and adaptive headlights may become “rent” items also. If BMW does this others will follow.

“If BMW does this, others will follow.”

If BMW successfully does this, others will follow.

This is weird. I know two guys who learned map reading in the Army. I did, too. They do not hesitate to punch in an address in their newer car’s display and follow it’s directions. They love it. I tried it once in a rental and I didn’t care for it.

Personally, I find it kinda fun to dig out or look up maps and plan my route. I put together a rough map with a couple crib notes and off I go in my rattletrap.

I develop a spatial sense for where I’m going so I know not only how to get there, but “where I am” in a real sense the whole time. This helps me when I return home, too.

I lose that spatial awareness when I really on a car’s GPS display and I do not like that feeling. But I get a sense that’s where the elites and manufacturers want us to be. Reliant on their directions and not worrying nor caring “where we really are.”
