IMHO, that is very unlikely, unless Japan has an interest in becoming a literal Chinese province. What’s more likely is the securing of an independent nuclear deterrent while attempting to become an offshore balancer, much like Britain for a good deal of the time since the Tudors. That means assisting any country, including Vietnam, Taiwan and the Koreas, that enters China’s gunsights.
