I was listening to another podcast, an engineer, talk about the “fantastic” luxury cars. They’re only made for the first buyer. The company doesn’t get any money from subsequent sales. The average BMW or Mercedes customer does not “buy” the car. They lease it. They get all the supposed advantages of fragile technology while that technology is still working. Then, after three years they turn the car in and get the next, latest and greatest thing in automotive science. Anyone who buys that car is buying a host of problems that are waiting to appear. It’s unlikely that there will be any restorations of today’s super cars. Making things like parking assist or lane holding work ten or twenty years from now will be impossible for the average auto enthusiast.

Exactly! Same for Audi. These are all geared to 3 year leases and the quality is designed that way as well.
