The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED) has been investigating the killings of Murdaugh's wife, Maggie, 52, and son Paul, 22, who were fatally shot outside the family's [1,772 acre] Islandton, S.C., home in June 2021. The double homicide, which has rocked the small rural community in the state's southern Lowcountry, was even more striking because of the Murdaugh family's prominent status in South Carolina, where three generations of Murdaughs once served as elected prosecutors for 87 consecutive years.

Paul was about to cost the family a boatload of money...He dies and the lawsuits go away....
Except the lawsuits haven’t gone away. True, Paul was dropped as a defendant
for obvious reasons but the other defendants are still alive and well (Alex himself and the convenience store chain that sold Paul the beer the night of the accident).
This entire soap opera is about the biggest legal mess in the history of South Carolina.
If A.M. is indeed charged with the murders, watch for the prosecutors to try and move the trial the hell out of Hampton County due to fear of a jury pool tainted by 8 decades of Murdaugh shenanigans.
