On a long drive without having had exits, McDonalds and a gas station equate to “civilization.”
Fast food and flush toilets. Can it really be considered civilization before those?
I am reminded of the movie DELIVERANCE. Their adventure into the wilds of wild backwoods America ends when their first sign of civilization was a wrecked abandoned car in the river. And boy were they glad to see it! CIVILIZATION!
