The European Union will build an eight million euro secure bunker in Brussels so that EU leaders can discuss classified information without Russian or other spies. This is evidenced by the EU memorandum describing the project, writes EUobserver. The room will be disconnected from the Internet, but will be equipped with internal conference technology with a large screen and microphones connected to booths for 30 interpreters. Both the meeting room and the booths will be enclosed in a NATO-certified insulating frame to “reduce the risk of exploitation of electromagnetic pulse emissions” that are generated by IT screens and wires. These signals can be intercepted remotely.
