Cecil B. Moore Ave. was once Columbia Ave. In the vacinity of Broad St., it's in the Temple University area. It's part of North Philadelphia.

Before World War II, that neighborhood was primarily eastern European, to include Ukrainian, Polish, German and Lithuanian. Following the war, it went black. Its inhabitants refer to it as "the jungle."

when my brother took his sweet HSer to see Temple and possibly apply there, it took all of about two minutes to make his mind up....no way....no freaking way....

I was born at Temple in 1951 - we lived in Germantown.
We had to leave in 1957 when I was 6.
It was a beautiful place - what a shame to leave it to scum.
