Wonder if Patton ever reflected on the fact that between 1941-1944 the Russians, at a tremendous cost to themselves, mauled and destroyed the best units of the German army and inflicted upon them devastating losses. Historians claim that the Germans had 4.5 million killed in WW II. The vast majority of those casualties were inflicted by the Russians who are said to have lost 20,000,000. If the American army had to liberate Europe from a German army that had not been decimated by the Russians, wonder how many Americans living today would have ever been born. Many of our fathers and grandfathers would have never survived the war or returned home.

The Eastern Front of WWII was literally the largest military conflict in human history.

I don't know if Patton would have come to a second opinion if he had lived long enough to learn about just how ferocious the fighting between the Wehrmacht and the Red Army was. I'd like to think that he would have.
