Latter years and Later Days in KJV.

And I believe that Revelation is largely metaphor and not to be interpreted as literal latter-day prophecy.

I also believe the secular state of Israel is just another country, unrelated to pre-Christian Biblical Israel or to New Israel (i.e., the Church).

I agree. It’s really no different than pretending today’s Egypt is the same people or nation that built the Pyramids.
The modern nation state, for good or bad simply adopted the old name and there is nothing special about them except that they are slightly more western than other middle easterners.
