Pretty much all land snails & freshwater crustaceans, etc., carry parasitic worms. Perfectly safe as long as it’s cooked. Try not to think about it the next time you eat crawfish etouffee.

We had crawfish for a meal once that I recall. Other than that, they were fishbait.
