In America, be glad that you are not a citizen of Cuba, Nicaragua, or Venezuela.
This Fourth of July, Americans have much to celebrate.
Despite an inflationary economy and extreme polarization leading up to the November elections, the United States remains a model nation for the rest of the world.
That model can be traced back to the Founding Fathers, who established institutions that have allowed American democracy to stand the test of time. The Declaration of Independence called for freedom, free markets, and equality of law in 1776, as the British empire threatened to impose control and taxes over the 13 colonies. In 1789, the Constitution established an even better institutionalized system, with justice at the forefront. Two years later, the Bill of Rights enshrined civil liberties into law, securing individual rights and providing a blueprint for other emerging democracies, even though slavery remained a horrific problem.
Even when populism rears an ugly head in America, its institutional foundation is strong enough to reaffirm democracy. Whereas other systems often succumb to populist leaders who abuse their power, people in the United States have shown that individuals and institutions can prevent it from happening.
For that reason, U.S. independence—the 246th anniversary of it—is still worth celebrating. Americans should be grateful for their freedoms and liberties, understanding that life could be much, much worse. Just south of the U.S.-Mexico border lie three somber case studies that reveal the other path.

We are not like Venezuela just yet. We are headed in that direction at a pace that is accelerating.
We have had our first Venezuelan election.
This was a direct result of failing to uphold the natural born citizen clause of the Constitution.
Anyone born with more than ONE nationality is NOT a natural born citizen.
It was that singularity of nationality that the founders were requiring.
The purpose of the clause was to keep foreigners out of the office.
Obama was born a British subject/Kenyan national even if he had been born in the Lincoln bedroom.
The Liz Cheney Crowd Inside The Beltway Like Brett Baier and the list goes like over at the “Washington Examiner” and beyond disgust me.
They want us to sing “Kumbaya” while wrongs have been done in the COVID regime period including the January 6th police state that have not been anywhere near rectified.
Conservatives are supposed to hate Russia and China along with Biden’s speechifying ala Johnson in Vietnam.
Progressives are supposed to implement the Climate Change agenda and stop cow gas and coal plants and buy electric cars.
The political-media establishment wants to suck us all in.
The people of Nicaragua and Venezuela actually VOTED for socialism. Now they are getting it, good and hard.
And of course, now that they got their utopian socialism, those same people are flocking to the USA to escape what they created. Soon to vote the same way here.
Freedom is not free. None of them.
But all real freedom is God-given. Treat them as the blessings they are, and defend them with your very life.
Never, ever, trade them for a mess of pottage. Worst barter in the world.
A Higher Power presides over the earthbound insanity.
I explained socialism to a middle school child this way. …. To make everyone have the same, you would give some of the points that earned you an A to someone who did no work and failed the class. That way you could both have a C. She did not like that idea at all.
