I agree with you. It gets too personal when the buyer and seller are negotiating directly with each other. For example, the prospective buyers are more likely to nitpick on minor defects and the owner will likely get defensive and angry, especially if present during the home inspection, possibly killing the sale in the process.

Maybe some people out there like to haggle directly with a bunch of potential buyers but I hate it. I don't even show up at the closings. I let my realtor and lawyer handle it and that's the way I like it.

In 28 years have bought 2 houses. Bought both FSBO. Gave one to an ex.
