Good Evening Smileyface,

Saw your comment about *** Good screed below ending a blog post discussing the Jesuits ***

Decided to read the referenced wordpress article as in my youth I was, for a time, a novice at the College of Saint Charles Borromeo in Grand Coteau, LA, the noviatiate of the then Southern Province of the order in this country.

In the brief over view of the story was the following:

“That the Jesuit order she had entered was founded by J. Peter Grace, a man highly involved in Project Paperclip, the bringing over of NAZI war criminals to the United States.”

Though I read the rest of the article, I could not give it any credibility. The Society of Jesus, often referred to as the Jesuits, is an order of the Catholic Church founded in 1540, by a Basque nobleman and soldier, Saint Ignatius of Loyola. The order is known for educational, research and missionary activities.

The history of the order has not been without controversy. It was a key component in the Catholic counter-reformation, providing martyrs in Elisabethan England, martyr missionaries in North America and has been a thorn in the side of many secular governments over many years.

Do I personally think the order has drifted, yes, especially in liberation theology and progressive leanings. Do I question many of the policies of the present pope, a Jesuit, yes, but he also speaks about satan and his influence in the world more than did even Saint John Paul II.

So, like many things for me nothing is perfect. I also consider the examples of Fr Timothy O’Callahan, S.J., who received the Medal of Honor for his actions on the USS
FRANKLIN in WWII; Fr Mitch Pacwa, S.J., scripture scholar on EWTN; Fr Joseph Fessio, S.J., who founded Ignatius Press which provides so many solid books in this era of confusion; Fr Jake Laboon, S.J. who won a Silver Star as the executive officer of a submarine during WWII, who has a ship named after him, USS LABOON DDG 58, who led an inspiring day retreat for me as a high school student; and finally Father Paul McNellis, S.J., professor of philosophy at Boston College, who had such a positive influence on my son-in-law.

After reading the “screed”, I put it in the category of anti-Catholic bigotry, much like “The Awful Disclosures of Maria Monk: the Hidden Secrets of a Nun’s Life in a Convent Exposed” were in the ninetheenth century. By the way, the Jesuits are still male only, Keri could not have entered the order.

Hope this gives some perspective on the article you referenced. VR/pat

```````
Not all priests are pedophiles.
Not all Jesuits are baddies.
Not all Southern Baptists are sex offenders.
Not all Mormons are traffickers.
On and on.
“Infiltration not invasion.”
but he also speaks about satan and his influence in the world more than did even Saint John Paul II.
Perhaps because he knows Satan better as an acolyte of his.
