Better return then Biden’s stock market…
Short answer: Heck yeah, especially if I did not think I was being bulldozed into accepting it in two seconds or less.
If the person who desperately wanted that seat was creating complete mayhem and chaos, then NO! I would not wish to give them that satisfaction of ordering me out. I say that now. Who knows what I’d do for real?
As someone said on another thread like this, I doubt that it’s 10K as a lump sum of any kind. It’s probably miles doled out over a long period, or other bennies with lots of restrictions and clarifications.
Things are getting bad.
“Better return then Biden’s stock market…”
I’m sure they report it to the irs ensuring dopey Joe gets his cut.
If it is 10k there might be a way to game system by buying tickets last minute on overbooked flights.
Go for it.
I don’t fly.
I would agree....it’s probably $100 in cash and $9,900 of value in future tickets.
Some point, around 2011...I was at an airport waiting area and the flight next to us was oversold...maybe a dozen seats. People were willing to accept a later flight, and just $50 in compensation at that point. Lot has changed in past decade.

Likely
I’m grateful that I was able to cancel & bank COVID-related obstacles.
My wife, daughter and I got $1;000 in Visa gift cards from Delta last month to get bumped from a flight out of Albuquerque to SLC. Our schedule was flexible enough for an overnight delay, 3k was quite nice. Only limitation we’ve seen is not able to buy gift cards with the gift card. Our daughter was able to buy a Southwest flight without problem.
It depends. I don’t need 26 hour flight turning into 72 hours, because my connections changed
But even today, it is rare for airlines to offer $10,000 for denied boardings, especially for such a short flight and in cash rather than gift cards or travel vouchers.
I'm not sure if they got it all at once, but it sounds like it could have happened that way.
Incorrect. Cash
Not what the story reported

Awhile back there was a freeper that said he did this years ago and ended up with a lot of free tickets.
Back in college and I would fly home and back I would book tickets for a late afternoon boarding in hopes of it being overbooked and getting a free ticket for a later flight that evening. IIRC it happened a couple of times.
A fella could make a decent living on $10k for every bumped flight!
I personally hate Delta.
I recently flew American and was pleasantly surprised at the comfort of their airline seats. And Southwest is generally good.
Hell yes. I didn’t wan’t to go anyway.
