Costing their economy hundreds of billions of dollars in lost trade in other areas, losing tens of thousands of soldiers, showing the world that their military is 5th rate at best, pushing formerly Sweden and Finland into NATO, and ending up in a war with a now much more heavily armed and fully NATO supported neighbor that they may lose to in the end.
Oh, and I forgot finding out that their military is totally dependent on foreign technology, and that their export market for weapons just cratered as nations around the world see how poorly their equipment performs.
Sounds like the typical brilliant Russian strategy.
