I hope they come armed. I don’t want there to be any doubt that what happened to them was self defense.
Some of the ones in the back of the crowd will certainly be armed. Keep that in mind for planning purposes.
It simply does not matter what the law says any longer. The "law" of self-defense is merely pretense at this late stage. Government officials do not want ordinary citizens resisting Government-approved attackers by any means for any reason. Anyone who resists will likely be prosecuted.
So what? It is not going to get any better. And no one is coming to save you.
Blinding lasers, fireworks, or arson materials are a distinct red line, where response is necessary. Thrown objects, physical contact, or even bullhorns and chanting make for some strong motivations to respond. Effective response must necessarily be disproportionate.
In the case of "mostly peaceful protestors" vandalizing my home, I tend to think in terms of "After the first one, all the rest are free".
Martyrdom is highly over-rated.
