When we taught elementary school with high school grads, these were mostly women of intelligence from the middle
class who wanted a job they could do until marriage. Or they were older women whose kids had grown and left.
Teaching worked out if and only if the teachers were drawn from the upper IQ range. That is not happening now.
True. They had much less opportunity in the business world in that time frame as well.
And I think we both know other reasons IQ is an issue now . . .
