Mark Steyn loved “Guys and Dolls”. I think it is one of the worst musicals of the era. One memorable song (Luck Be a Lady Tonight”) and a stupid story. Brando was completely miscast. Sinatra, a much better singer than actor, wasn’t that much in his element. No chemistry. No real drama. Not much humor.
Now that it turns out that Brando gets beaten up and Sinatra’s wife acted in a scandalous way, I can only say it figures. Worst ju-ju since “The Conqueror”.

"He looked like he'd just visited hell and escaped with his life. That's how I looked the first time I heard Brando crock out Luck Be a Lady Tonight. I had to listen to Sinatra's version on Live at the Sands to wipe away Brando's vocal nightmare.
Brando did deserve a beating for that alone.

Sinatra got a chance a couple of years later to make up for that Guys and Dolls disappointment with Pal Joey. That was definitely his element.
