The poor guy didn’t understand that there are some people who love and glory in math while there are others who loathe, despise, and abominate it. I am in the latter group while my mother was in the former, even though I am a male. That just proves that the stereotype of women being bad at math and men being good at it is nothing but a stereotype where there are always major individual exceptions. This poor guy just has to understand that his son is not now and never will be a mathematician and direct his son into some other line of work.
If you read the article, the some was doing much better before the tutoring.
“This poor guy just has to understand that his son is not now and never will be a mathematician and direct his son into some other line of work.”
Back in the 80’s I knew a grad student from red China. Around the time of Tianmen Square. She told me that in China students who don’t score high on tests are destined to do menial farm work. China has more factories today, but either way I’ll bet the son is looking forward to a lifetime of slave labor.
