The study does not say COVID makes you fat. It says it makes the cells it inhabits fat, so that it has a fuel source to keep hurting you.
People with higher triglycerides are able to help COVID bloom, creating problems for such persons that others won't get.
Finally, it says a type of drug not previously understood to help served as an antiviral against COVID (Orlistat). It's not too unlike finding out HCQ or Ivermectin can help.

Perhaps that explains why having a high BMI is such an important comorbidity for COVID.
