I don’t know the details of this particular speeding incident. My opinion is that as long as the road was deserted (but only in that case), the driver wasn’t placing anyone else at risk. It’s up to him to balance the risk to himself, his car, and his driving record against the benefit of whatever thrill he got from driving that fast.
I looked at the road on Google Earth. The most likely place on Route 10 for this stunt is a stretch of about 1/2 mile with 4 lanes in the same direction and no entrances or cross streets. The posted speed limit is 55.
What speed would have been low enough for you not to call for the murder of the Mustang driver, given that nobody was in fact injured? 120? 100? 60?
There were MORE than one person spotted and stopped that Friday AFTERNOON.
It’s not a big road. It’s ok but it’s not even as long as its parallel neighbor I-97. Which a few weeks ago, had a rear axle/differential out in the north lanes not far from there! Try hitting that with your 170mph car.
