What case was brought before the SCOTUS that involved a direct vote on Roe vs Wade separate from the Mississippi case? Yes, Roberts issued a statement, saying he would not have voted to overturn Roe, but that seems to be a distinction with no difference, and he made it for political reasons. My understanding is that the SCOTUS cannot issue rulings on disputes that are not brought before them. So how was there a separate vote on Roe v Wade apart from Dobbs v. Jackson? If so, what was the name of the other case?
If there is no other case either the SCOTUS voted twice or Roberts is playing word games in his "dissent".
It was just the one case, and the majority ruling made an expansive statement as part of that, that overturned Roe/Casey.
Roberts concurred on the main vote, but said he would not have gone as far as overturning anything.
