Gee if there was only some cheap and/or permanent methods to prevent pregnancies the abortion rate would be close to zero ... oh wait. There is but that doesn’t work for women that would rather kill a baby instead of taking pills all the time or have an IUD implanted.
The problem with those options is they can do permanent damage to the woman's body. When you decide to get off the pill and start trying, it can take months or a year for a woman's body to return to normal and be capable of conceiving. Between me and the wife, we know three people who are supposedly infertile now from overlong usage of an iud or the arm implant.
Most of these solutions mess with a woman's natural hormones, and that often has other consequences tied in. Although sometimes there are medical usages, my old girlfriend had pcos pretty bad, and using the pill helped keep her cycle regular and even out the hormone imbalances.

So abortion does permanent damage to a baby in waiting but I guess the woman ultimately decides whether to use either or any of the method available to them.
