The Bible condones indentured servant hood which is not chattel slavery. Most of the laws pertaining to “slaves” where protecting indentured servants.

The only true slaves allowed were POWs (they have no rights today either) and foreigners bought. Even then they were protected from rape, great bodily injury, murder, and were to be freed at least by the seventh year. They had Saturday’s off in the main as well. Not comparable to chattel slavery.

It was illegal to return a runaway slave. It was a death penalty offense to man steal. (Kidnap and enslave). And the entire book of Philemon is a plea for the release of one. To say the Bible condones slavery is completely false. There is a reason that the abolitionists in America were Christians and you dishonor their legacy.
