If it is "inconvenient" to have a baby, some women (and men) want the right to terminate the pregnancy. They justify this to themselves by pretending that the fetus as nothing more than a clump of cells and not an actual human being.
These same people will shriek that we are forcing victims of rape to carry their babies to term but come on, even the most hardline pro-lifers are not going to have a problem with a rape victim getting a D&C right after the event. So for me, that argument is a non-starter.
The most hard line pro lifers are defined by their regarding life, any life as life. I’m one of them.
My motto used to be, “I don’t care how many of their unborn babies the liberals kill.”
I have since then changed my mind. I do care. I’m not religious but I do believe in the Golden Rule. If I expect others to respect my right to life then I am obligated to respect theirs. That applies if that other person is unborn as of yet. It also applies if that person’s father is a rapist or other type of criminal.
I hold these values out of self interest. I think the world will be a better place FOR ME if everyone else holds these values.
