I'm not a big fan of Mitch McConnell, but a lot of this criticism is unwarranted. Much of what he does is simply a function of occupying a leadership position in a legislature comprised of elected officials from all over the country.

I would also point out that we are seeing the natural consequence of a political process with no real limits on campaign finance. Once you turn the election process into a business, it's inevitable that state and local races effectively become nationalized ... and the process is dominated by wealthy interests in the nation's largest cities that can fund political advocacy campaigns all over the U.S.

A good reason to repeal the 17th Amendment and return the selection for the Senate back to the States.

“He did do a good job of putting 15 traitors in the cross hairs.”

Five of the 15 were retiring this year and could care less about their constituents or the future of the nation. They’ve accumulated wealth in public office and will enjoy the fruits of their labors for the donor base. Likely lucrative book deals, corporate board seats, speeking engagements, lobbying jobs, academic appointments, and foundation leadership roles will be coming to them if they don’t simply head for the beach.

This points out one of the major differences between Democrats and Republicans. Democrats are passionate ideologues committed to making the US a one party state with absolute control over every individual. These Dem politicians fight for the cause until their last hour in public office.

Republicans are not ideologues, they are administrators who are members of a social club. The conservative brand is something they wear to differentiate themselves from the democrats, and to obtain automatic support of a segment of the voter population. Freedom of the individual is a cause they espouse when convenient, it is not a hill to die on. When you are not committed, compromise is easy.

The current war for the future of the nation is a war between committed Marxists and country club compromisers who are “conservatives” for convenience. Hence the left exploits in unison every event that might advance its cause. Conservatives either stay silent or compromise in the face of battle.

Four events in recent time have demonstrate the Republicans will completely surrender quietly when the time comes:

1) The first two years of Trump’s presidency the GOP controlled the House and Senate with greater numbers than the Dems do today. Yet instead of passing conservative legislation, McConnell and Ryan were totally focused on preserving the power of the big government administrative state (Deep State), and bringing down the President they and the Democrats perceived as a threat to that state. They wouldn’t even repeal Obamacare.

2) The treatment of the citizens arrested for the January 6 so called “insurgency” is an abomination for anyone who believes in the Constitution and rule of law. Whether or not they committed crimes they have been denied by the DOJ and liberal judges their fundamental rights of due process. Any politician who claims to be conservative, and a defender of liberty, should be screaming from the rooftops demanding justice. Yet we hear nothing. If GOP politicians won’t speak out for the few, they certainly won’t speak out for the many when the time comes.

3) The current capitulation on gun control The Uvalde tragedy is not demonstration of the need for more control over guns in the hands of citizens. It is a demonstration of the failure of law enforcement and institutions to protect the citizens.

4) The leadership of the GOP, and most of the career politicians ignore or at best pay lip service to election integrity. The Democrats constantly push to make it easier to cheat - mail in ballots, longer voting periods, no photo ID, in some jurisdictions allowing non-citizens to vote, unmonitored collection boxes, vote harvesting, calls for allowing 16 year olds to vote, electronic voting machines that can easily be manipulated by election officials, etc. In the face of this, and demonstrated cheating, Republican officials are simply silent. McConnell and the rest simply claim allegations of cheating are nonsense and the elections are fair.

The Democrat agenda is to destroy the Constitution and shift from a nation where the role of government is to preserve and protect the natural rights of individual citizens to an all powerful government that controls the lives of each individual and determines outcomes. One day we will see a Democrat president who will be given emergency powers by a Democrat majority Congress and those powers will be approved by a leftist majority Supreme Court. Likely Congress will vote to dissolve itself, and the dictator/president will appoint a panel of “experts” to write a new constitution.

Consider the current crop of Republican political leaders. If a Democrat President suspended the Constitution, how many would speak out, much less put their lives on the line? Liz Cheney? Mitch McConnell? Kevin McCarthy? Lindsay Graham? Mitt Romney? Susan Collins? George W. Bush? Nicki Haley? Mike Pence? Any of the five retiring GOP Senators?

Never underestimate the ability of Republicans to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory.

A broken clock is right twice a day. McConnell is a disaster for the GOP and the country. He loathes his base and conservatives. The SCOTUS judges are the only reason many conservatives voted for the limousine liberals like McConnell, and up until today even that load of RNC claptrap was deader than Julies Caesar and still may be worthless in the next election cycles. McConnell is a $ hungry sellout to the highest bidder and everything that is wrong with the Republican Party.

I met the man he is everything this author describes.
