Hundreds of dogs have been rescued from a truck in China that was taking them to be slaughtered at the highly controversial Yulin dog meat “festival”.
Activists said the “truck from hell” was carrying 386 dogs in crampt conditions when it was spotted in Shaanxi city on Sunday and pulled over with the help of the police. Shaanxi is about 800km away from the city of Yulin, where the so-called “festival” of dog meat takes place every year despite efforts to ban it.
Video and photos taken by the activists and released to global animal protection group Humane Society International (HSI) show the moment the truck was intercepted, with distressing scenes of dogs crammed into small wire cages in the sweltering heat.
The truck had a Yulin number plate and upon its interception the driver failed to prove that he had acquired and was transporting the dogs legally, the organisation said in a release.
Activists say the dogs were all distressed and had visible signs of disease and injuries. They were a mixture of breeds and some still had collars on, indicating they could have been stolen pets.
“It was horrifying to see so many dogs in such an appalling state, it was like a truck from hell for these poor animals,” Lin Xiong, one of the activists at the scene, told the Humane Society International, an animal rights organisation that supports the care of dogs rescued from China’s meat trade.

Whenever my Grandpa came to visit, he would bring the best tacos EVER. He bought them at a mom n pop taco stand in his neighborhood.
All of a sudden he stopped bring them. We finally got up enough nerve to ask him why.
He said that the Board of Health closed them down for serving cat meat.
For years after that we called cats “walking tacos”!
I don’t eat dog, but it is an animal, and, thus, can be eaten.
Hindus are appalled we eat their relatives when we eat cattle meat.

They can take all the ones that exhibit indescribable cruelty to animals and to other humans and toss 'em into an erupting volcano, for my money. Asians are the most cold blooded people I've ever met.

You are on spot.
They could kill the dog and then remove the fur via quick boil or burn and shaving. No, would never do it. Only addressing the process.
Most societies have a set number of serial abusers and/or serial killers and they gravitate to jobs where they can be aroused and satiated. I would venture these dog-meat providers would fall into those categories.
I am a dog owner, who would probably kill to protect those dogs.
THAT SAID, it’s more to do with the process than the source of meat that is markedly disturbing.
As with ANY meat, it must be dealt with in a way to cause the least amount of pain in dying. I take that view as being part of the Stewardship of the LORD God’s creatures.
When I hear of animal abusers I am of the belief they are the future serial sex abusers and/or serial sex abusers/killers.
I do hope they found safe homes for all the dogs.
