SALINAS, Calif. — Jury selection for the trial of the men charged in the 1996 disappearence and murder of Cal Poly student Kristin Smart has been postponed at least a week, the court announced Sunday.
Monterey County Superior Court said proceedings were postponed due to a health concern with one of the trial participants. The court did not name the person.
Advertisement Jury selection for Paul Flores was scheduled to begin Monday but has been pushed back to June 27.
The court has not set a date for the start of jury selection for Ruben Flores, the other defendant's father.
Prosecutors have accused Paul Flores of killing Smart while trying to rape her in his dorm room. He was allegedly the last person seen with Smart on May 25, 1996 before she was reported missing. According to witnesses, Paul was seen walking Smart to her dorm room after an off-campus party.
Ruben Flores is accused of helping his son dispose of Smart's body. Prosecutors are expected to argue he helped bury Smart underneath the deck of his home in Arroyo Grande before later moving the body.
Paul and Ruben Flores have pleaded not guilty to their charges. More than 25 years later, Smart's remains have not been found. In 2002 Smart was declared legally dead.
Any relation to that Elizabeth Smart chick that couldn’t
escape from a tent or while in a mall?
Because she didn’t really want to?
I don’t know.
You are horrible. But you know that and it eats away at you and then you lash out on here.
Do the prosecutors have any actual evidence in this case or is it just a pile of circumstantial evidence compounded with questionable ‘eyewitness’ testimony?
Your ignorance is showing
‘gunner that was totally uncalled for
